Field Trip: Mississippi River Waterfowl

November 17, 2019 @ 7:30 am - 3:00 pm CST

NEW ITINERARY due to the cold weather forecast and frozen lakes. A trip to the Mississippi will be held instead of the Linn County waterfowl field trip.

Mississippi River Scott(IA)/Rock Island(IL) Waterfowl: This trip will target waterfowl, gulls, raptors and possibly passerines.  Lighting conditions will govern how we bird the river.

Meet leader Brandon Caswell at 7:30 am at Kohl’s parking lot, 2795 Commerce Dr. Coralville. We’ll then carpool to the Quad Cities.

Waterfowl may be distant so bring a scope if you have one.  Possible places of interest include various stops along the Mississippi River including L&D 14 and 15,Ben Butterworth Park and the Credit Island area.  We might also stop at Fairmount Cemetery depending on how we begin the morning.

Dress for the weather with extra warm layers and wear hiking boots. Return time at Kohl’s about 3:00 pm, but those who need to get back earlier can leave whenever they need to.  We can make a stop for lunch if people want to and will obviously have some bathroom breaks.  There won’t be any high impact hiking.
